From the 9 March 2010 Metro Group Energy Management (MGEM) will begin operating on the Polish Power Exchange on Day - Ahead Market, Electricity Forward Market and Energy Certificate Market.
MGEM, like companies PKP Energetyka and Kopex, will carry out a transaction on the POLPX markets mainly to cover the demands of their companies in the capital group - in the case of MGEM - the companies of Metro Group.
Metro Group Energy Management has a concession for electricity trading. The objects of the company is distribution and sale of electricity and distribution and sale of natural gas in a transmission networks. The company provides comprehensive management services for energy utility supply and optimization of electricity use for the benefit of the Metro Group companies and customers outside the capital group.
Metro Group is an international commercial business, present in 33 countries of the world. In Poland, Metro Group is present through its distribution chain since the mid-1990s. Real, Media Markt, Saturn, Macro Cash & Carry are retail chains belonging to the Metro Group in Poland. In addition, Metro Group is responsible for the management of 9 shopping centres "M1" as retail shops, service and catering points. The Metro Group runs 136 large retail outlets and is a leader of the commerce business industry in Poland.
Polish Power Exchange (POLPX) was established in 1999. POLPX is an established spot electricity, emission allowances, energy certificates and energy derivatives exchange in Poland. POLPX also runs the Energy Certificates Register for electricity produced in renewable energy sources and highly efficient cogeneration.
